<aside> ✍🏼 Use this template to sketch out your thoughts and create your MicroBook’s North Star. The Win Before You Begin workshop will also help with this. This is as relevant for a book of essays as it is for narrative non-fiction, or self-help, or how-to, or fiction.

This is less about the content and topic of the book, and more about what you want it to do for you, your business (maybe), and your reader. This is really important for a couple of reasons:

  1. You will want to set everything on fire at some point, and this document will help you remember why you started.
  2. Most people want their books to be part of something bigger—whether that’s to help grow your business, or become part of a series, or start a publishing empire. Knowing where this fits in is extremely helpful.

Finally, remember: it’s okay if your goals and aims change as you write! In fact, they probably will. Consider this a living document you can change and alter to suit you and your plans.

What do you want your book to do for your reader?

Consider:

Your reader’s goals will inform where your book sits in your life or business, and what else you might want to do with it.
